The GEF Secretariat, in collaboration with the GEF CSO Network, would like to invite you to the GEF Consultation with Civil Society on Thursday 29th May, 7:00am – 9:00 am EST (Washington DC time) via Zoom.
The GEF has long acknowledged the pivotal role that civil society organizations (CSOs), indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs), women, youth, and other stakeholders play in advancing global environmental goals. With the launch of GEF-9, the opportunity to transform this recognition into a fully resourced, mainstreamed, and operational “Whole of Society (WoS) approach” has never been more relevant. A Whole of Society approach can leverage the strengths of both government and non-government stakeholders to drive transformative change and achieve greater impact in addressing global environmental challenges.
Building on the many consultations with civil society, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women and youth group that the GEF Secretariat has organized and facilitated in GEF-8, this forward-looking event will bring together members of the GEF partnership, civil society representatives and GEF project and program beneficiaries to further discuss, advance, explore and refine ideas and options available to the GEF to operationalize GEF’s Whole-of-Society approach and expand its partnership, engagement, support, and financing to civil society, Indigenous peoples, local communities, women and youth, in GEF-9.
The consultation is virtual and is envisaged to be an interactive event. If you are interested in learning about GEF’s Whole of Society approach and strategies to further civil society engagement or are a member of the GEF Partnership, please register in advance for this meeting in zoom: https://worldbankgroup.zoom.us/meeting/register/PXdsuisbRT2jHhmPw2NMfA
